An air compressor encountered high vibration issue during its commissioning stage, leading to impeller and casing rub. Inspection performed found dislodged shrink fitted thrust collar, resulting in excessive axial movement of the pinion and eventually rubbing. This case study will include the investigation finding, root cause identification, rectification work and lesson learnt.
